Merriam-Webster defines discernment as "the quality of being able to grasp and comprehend what is obscure; an act of perceiving or discerning something."
I define it as "an ability to understand, hear, or see an event, thought, or conversation without actually being present at the time the event, thought, or conversation took place; a spiritual superpower."
There are some who believe they are more righteous, more faithful, or more in step with "God's" will than another. Their delusion of self-importance causes them to see themselves as the true child of God; however, they see you as something other than that. What they believe are your transgressions are greater than the transgressions they do not see within themselves. Therefore, they feel justified and believe "God" allows them to deceive you without consequences or feelings of guilt. Being deceitful keeps you awake at night, wondering and hoping that the person you attempted to deceive really doesn't know or understand. But guess what? They do. It's humility and grace that causes them to be still.
Discernment or insight is a gift that the Universe/the Creator/the Source/Divine Consciousness bestows upon the humble and the gracious. Discernment does not allow me to know whether or not someone is righteous. Discernment (wisdom) allows me to know and understand when someone is not being true or real with me. And the person who is being untrue or non-genuine with me does not understand that they are also being false or non-genuine with the Universe or my/their Maker and Creator--"He" or That which understands and knows all things.
Just be real, even if feelings are hurt or intentions are misinterpreted. Then, the burden of guilt will not be yours.
