Study To Be Quiet

I was sitting here thinking about life, lessons, and experience. And I felt like blogging about it. Many years ago, when I was a young woman, several of us young women and men were sitting around talking and passing time. We decided to play a game. Someone would call out a letter of the alphabet, and we all had to name a city that began with that letter. Someone called out the letter S. When my turn came, I said, "San Salvador." One of the other young women corrected me and, in a seemingly smug way, said, "It's El Salvador." And this was a woman with children. I had to school her by letting her know that there is a city called San Salvador (the capital of El Salvador). It made me realize that people should stay in their lane and study (learn something) before trying to correct other grown folks. I practice that myself. Make sure you know that you know before opening your mouth. If you're not 100% sure, just be quiet. You don't have to pretend to be the sharpest thumbtack in the box or the brightest bulb in the candelabra. And you don't have to prove anything to anyone because if you happen to be incorrect, it makes you look foolish or ignorant. You know, there's a Proverb about seeming wise or intelligent if you hold your tongue (keep your lips closed). The end.

Keep your lips closed.
